COMMITTEE OF 500 YEARS OF DIGNITY AND RESISTANCE
DEMONSTRATION GUIDELINES
We thank you for you support. In order to keep the focus on the target of our demonstration, rather than the behavior of the demonstrators, we ask that you respect and honor the following guidelines. Our goal is to have a peaceful, effective and informative demonstration. You will be asked to leave if these guidelines are not followed.
We are asking all supporters to focus only on the racism against Native Americans. This being an election year along with what is happening around the world, it would be easy to go off in many directions. Please focus on the issue of negative stereotyping. It is extremely important that we focus on this issue. We need to bring this issue to the forefront and address only what is happening to Indigenous people due to negative stereotyping and racism.
1. No drugs or alcohol. If you are already inebriated, please do not participate in the demonstration.
2. No vulgar language or aggressive behavior. Please be respectful to our elders and young children that attend our demonstration. This type of behavior will give the authorities and news media what they are looking for to destroy the just cause of the people. Be careful of entrapment
3 This demonstration is an appeal to the fans and general public against the Cleveland baseball business that is profiteering using "indians" and "chief wahoo" as a mascot. Demonstrators are not to threaten or engage shouting matches with baseball fans.
4. In the case of civil disobedience, if you are being arrested, do not resist (no fighting back), go limp, fall down, and let yourself be carried out. If you resist arrest it becomes a different situation. We cannot financially afford to help.
5. Stay with the demonstrators at all times - Going off by yourself could be dangerous.
6. We will appoint at least two members of our group and one "security" person (who mayor not be a member of our group) to be our official demonstration/protest spokespersons. They will be known as our "protest committee." These persons will have responsibility to: speak or negotiate with ballpark officials or police; handle 'unruly' behavior of fans and/or protestors if need arises; approve, or disapprove, any planned on protest site" staged productions or attention attracting devices that may cause or incite negative reaction from fans, ballpark security and city police officers on duty; and, handle any other undefined or unknown incident that may require immediate solution or decisions. We would appreciate being informed in advance of any individual or group intention to perform civil disobedience.
We thank you for your cooperation following the guidelines and supporting our demonstration against racism promoted by the Cleveland baseball team.
